Sun Devils at U.S. Olympic Swim Trials: Day 4 Live Recap - Arizona State University Athletics (1)

INDIANAPOLIS – Every four years the country's best swimmers compete against one another in an attempt to qualify for Team USA, arguably the hardest Olympic team to make.

On Saturday, the U.S. Olympic Swim Trials started where 22 Sun Devil Swimmers of present and the past are representing ASU vying for a spot on Team USA and a trip to the Paris Olympics at Lucas Oil Stadium, the first Olympic Swim Trials to take place inside a football stadium.

Recaps and results from each day can be seen below highlighting the Sun Devil athletes who competed over the nine-day stretch.

Day 4 (June 18, 2024):
Eight Sun Devils competed on Tuesday with three making it to the evening session of the semifinals.

Daniel Matheson competed in his second final of the week, this time in the 800m free final where he came in third to earn a medal with a time of 7:49.34, one of three swimmers to break sub-7:50 in the race.

Jonny Kulow and Patrick Sammon each qualified for the 100m free semifinal, and finished in 9th and 10th respectively Tuesday evening, being alternates for the 100m final Wednesday night. Sammon finished with a time of 48.29 and Kulow swam in 48.50.

Alex Colston qualified for the 200m butterfly semifinal where he finished 15th with a time of 1:59.64.

In the morning prelims, ASU Alum Grant House finished 19th in the 100m free with a time of 48.96, Jack Dolan finished 37th in 49.73 and Julian Hill finished in 49.98 for 42nd, respectively.

Erin Milligan competed in the 100m free on the women's side and finished in 46th in 56.1

Day 3 (June 17, 2024):


The only Sun Devil to compete on Monday was Daniel Matheson in the 800m freestyle, in which he threw down a 7:54.97 which was the sixth fastest time of the day to move into the 800m free final on Tuesday night.


Day 2 (June 16, 2024):
Three Sun Devils made the semifinals of their respective events, Sun Devil alum Grant House finished 10th swimming a 1:47.12 in the 200 free, Patrick Sammon finished tied for 13th in the 200 free semi-final in 1:47.23, Jack Dolan finished 14th in the 100m backstroke in 54.43, respectively. For Dolan, his next event will be in the 100m free which starts on Tuesday.

In the morning preliminaries, Julian Hill placed 22nd in the 200m free in 1:47.98, his last event he'll compete in is the 100m free to take place on Tuesday.Aluma Lindsay Looney finished in 21st in the 200m free with a time of 1:59.88. The All-American has one more event in the trials, which is in the 100m fly to take place on Wednesday.

Dylan Gravley competed in the 400m IM and finished 45th with a time of 4:25.99 and Jack Wadsworth swam a 56.81 in the 100m backstroke. With one event remaining, he'll compete in the 1500m free which is on Saturday, June 22nd.


Day 1 (June 15, 2024):

Daniel Matheson highlighted the opening day of trials by being able to qualify for the final after coming in fifth place in the final heat of the 400m freestyle with a time of 3:48.57.

That evening, the Peoria, Arizona native swam a 3:48.63 to place 7th, respectively.

Sun Devil Alumna Lindsay Looney took part in the 100m butterfly and won her heat with a time of 59.25, however was unable to move onto the semi-finals, placing 24th out of 76 swimmers. Looney has the 200m fly and the 200m freestyle remaining in the Olympic Trials this upcoming week.

Andy Dobrzanski swam in the first of two events in the 100m breaststroke and finished with a time of 1:01.12, placing 23rd out of 87 swimmers. His next events will be in the 200m breaststroke slated for Tuesday.

Julian Hill and Jake Mason took part in the 400m freestyle, where Hill placed 28th with a time of 3:53.48 and Mason swam a 3:58.31 to place 52nd.

ABOUT THE OLYMPIC TRIALS:

NBCU will present nine consecutive nights of swimming in primetime on NBC and Peaco*ck from Lucas Oil Stadium, home of the NFL's Indianapolis Colts, in what will be the first time ever that this event will be staged on a football field, in front of hundreds of thousands of fans over nine days. This year's Trials will also be the 100th anniversary since Indianapolis hosted the U.S. Olympic Swimming Trials for the 1924 Olympic Games in Paris.
